Benigni named new voice of the IceMen

The Evansville IceMen have appointed local radio personality Derick Benigni as Director of Media Relations and Broadcaster for play-by-play.

Benigni is a native of Detroit, Mich., but has lived in Evansville for the past 15 years. He has been greatly involved in the Evansville radio and broadcasting scene since his arrival in the Tri-State area in 1998. Benigni was the first ever voice of the IceMen, as he was the radio broadcaster during the 2009-10 All-American Hockey League championship season when the team called Swonder Ice Arena home.

In his career in Evansville, Benigni has broadcasted local high school hockey and football games. He has also been a member of local radio station WYIR for the past four years and has hosted a number of IceMen-related shows, such as IceMen Insights.

Benigni's co-host, Michael Shockley, said the team found an ideal voice for the team. "Derick will do a fantastic job," Shockley said Monday. "He knows hockey, understands how to communicate with the fans, and brings a great attitude and sense of humor to the airwaves. The IceMen couldn't have hired a better guy for the job!"

With this official announcement, the IceMen are also confirming the resumption of the ever popular Monday night show IceMen Live with Benigni serving as host.

IceMen Live has been a staple in the fabric of the IceMen organization and will remain just that for yet another season.

Tonight will mark the first episode of IceMen Live of the 2013-14 season, and will be housed by Backstage Bar & Grill in downtown Evansville (located at the corner of 6th and Main). The two-hour show will take place from 6-8 p.m. CT and will feature IceMen forward Josh Beaulieu.

The following edition of IceMen Live will be Monday, Sept. 23 at Beef O’ Brady’s in Newburgh, also from 6-8 p.m. Guest announcement for this show will come at a later date.

Starting Monday, Oct. 7, IceMen Live will run weekly throughout the course of the season and will alternate location between Backstage Bar & Grill and Beef O’ Brady’s.
