Tina Stein named new Eyewitness News anchor

Award-winning anchor for Rockford, Ill. CBS affiliate set to begin duties here Sept. 16

Eyewitness News has hired a new evening anchor to fill the spot vacated when Whitney Ray departed earlier this month.

Tina Stein, currently anchor of the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts on Gray Television-owned WIFR, the CBS affiliate in Rockford, Ill., will begin working at WEHT/WTVW on Sept. 16.

"I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of journalism produced by Eyewitness News," Stein said. "I look forward to joining such a strong group of professionals dedicated to telling the “people” stories that truly make a difference in the community."

A University of Iowa graduate and winner of 11 Illinois Associated Press awards, Stein has worked at WIFR since 2006, advancing from reporter to weekend anchor in 2008 and then to evening anchor three years ago. In 2012, she was named the Illinois Broadcasters' Association Best Anchor.

Stein, her husband, Steve, and daughter Claire will be moving to the Tri-State soon.
