S. Illinois radio host Pat Benton announces retirement

PAT BENTON: WUEZ host retiring after 44
years in radio
Will leave the airwaves at Magic 95.1 in December

Longtime Southern Illinois radio host Pat Benton of WUEZ-Magic 95.1 in Carterville is retiring.

The Southern Illinoisan reports that Benton, who has been in radio for 44 years, the last 19 with WUEZ's sister station WOOZ-Z100 (1994-2000) and since 2000 on Magic 95.1, said "it's time" for him to step aside.

“I really don’t have any plans,” Benton told the newspaper. “I have been in radio for 44 years and it’s time. My only hope is that this year’s Pat’s Kids (his annual fundraiser which helps less-fortunate Southern Illinois children have  a better Christmas) will be a big one.”

Benton's last show will be Dec. 20. The station encourages listeners to visit their website to leave farewell messages.
