REPORT: The next fight? Disney/ABC and Dish

Here in the Tri-State and in our neighboring markets, Dish Network customers just got their Raycom Media-owned stations back (WFIE, KFVS and WAVE), but at the end of September, they could lose even more.

Variety reported on Friday that Dish is now negotiating with The Walt Disney Co. for carriage renewals for the ABC owned-and-operated stations, ESPN, Disney Channel and other cable networks that Disney owns.

It does NOT include ABC affiliates in our area like WEHT, WAWV, WHAS11, WSIL, KDNL, WKRN or WBKO, which are owned by other companies.

And Dish's head man, Charlie Ergen, is prepared if they can or can't make a deal.

“We’ll work first and foremost to find a deal with Disney that makes sense for our customers,” Ergen said on the company’s earnings call last week. “If we get that deal, we’ll do it. If we don’t get that deal, we’ll part ways — simple as that.”
