Madisonville NOAA Weather Radio transmitter malfunctioning

UPDATE, 5 p.m.: A list of available alternate NOAA Weather Radio channels has been added below. Please note that if you live in Caldwell, Hopkins, McLean or Webster counties, you will need to rely on local TV or radio as you do not have an officially-listed channel available to you.

The National Weather Service in Paducah reports that NOAA Weather Radio station WXJ91 (162.525 MHz) in Madisonville, Ky. is malfunctioning this afternoon.  Here's the official statement:
NOAA WEATHER RADIO TRANSMITTER WXJ-91...OPERATING ON A FREQUENCY OF 162.525 MHZ...IS INADVERTENTLY ALERTING WHEN CERTAIN PRODUCTS ARE SENT. BECAUSE OF THE ONGOING WEATHER...WE WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE TODAY...BUT WILL ADDRESS IT THOROUGHLY TOMORROW. IN THE MEANTIME THIS TRANSMITTER MAY BE BRIEFLY OFF THE AIR AS WE TAKE STEPS TO MITIGATE THIS PROBLEM AS IT OCCURS.
WXJ91 serves all or part of Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Daviess, Henderson, Hopkins, Lyon, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd, Trigg, Union and Webster counties in Western Kentucky.  Some areas may have alternate weather radio channels which can be used; others should tune to local TV and radio for the latest weather information.

  • McLEAN CO. — no alternate channel; tune to local TV or radio
  • MUHLENBERG CO. — Bowling Green, Ky. (KIH45, 162.4 MHz)
  • TODD CO. — Bowling Green, Ky. (KIH45, 162.4 MHz); Hopkinsville, Ky. (KXI26, 162.45 MHz)
