Brian Williams returning to Nightly News next week

Anchor of nation's top-rated network newscast underwent knee replacement surgery Aug. 6

Brian Williams will return to the anchor desk at NBC Nightly News on Tuesday, Aug. 3, just under a month after undergoing surgery to replace his knee.

Williams, in an interview with Dr. Nancy Snyderman that aired Thursday, called himself "a motivated patient" who was ready to end the decades of pain caused by a high school football injury.

Lester Holt has been anchoring Nightly News during Williams' recovery.
