BREAKING: David Heckard and Whitney Ray to leave Eyewitness News

Leaving Eyewitness News
WEHT/WTVW news director Bob Freeman announced this morning that two members of the Eyewitness News team — meteorologist David Heckard and anchor Whitney Ray — will soon be leaving the Tri-State's ABC and CW affiliates.

Heckard, who joined WEHT in late 2006, will become the weekend meteorologist at WBBH-NBC 2, the NBC affiliate in Ft. Myers, Fla. His last day with WEHT and WTVW will be July 21.

Ray, who returned to the Eyewitness News team last year after her son's birth in 2011, is leaving television to become a full-time wife and mother. Her last day will be Aug. 9.

Freeman tells me that both Heckard and Ray have been an integral part of the resurgence of Eyewitness News in recent months, and he said it will not be easy to replace two very well-liked and well-respected members of the WEHT/WTVW family.
EDITOR'S NOTE:  I'm planning to sit down with both David and Whitney when I return from vacation, so you'll hear directly from both of them about their future plans very soon.  Stay tuned!

I like their. I hope they come back.

Stacey May coming back full time maybe?

Not at this point, as I understand it. They have not named a replacement for either David or Whitney, but hope to do so soon.

I'm happy for each and everyone of them. That place is a sinking ship! Did you see how that spelled four play on a story on-line? That just shows how lame they are.

I was wondering how the recent ratings for May went between the two stations in the Tri+State. I know you did a story on November and February.

I've not heard on the May ratings yet.

Seriously? You must work for 14 WLIE.

By the way, you have a typo in your comment bashing that sinking ship for a typo in a web story. You really showed them!
